Project Title:
Sports Activities for Autistic Children and Youth
Implementation Period:
September 2024 – December 2024
Funding Source:
Panevėžys City Municipality, support from the „Sparnai svajonei“ (Wings for a Dream) charity fund.
Project Goal:
To improve the physical capacity of autistic children and develop their physical activity skills while enhancing their social and independence abilities. The project also aims to increase motivation for sports through active leisure traditions.
Problem Statement:
Autistic children often face barriers that prevent participation in sports activities, including sensory overload, insufficient trainer preparedness, lack of independence, and challenges in social integration. According to survey data, 68% of autistic children in Panevėžys do not attend any sports activities. This lack of physical activity negatively affects their health and well-being.
Activities:
Swimming Lessons:
34 weekly sessions for two groups (primary and lower secondary school-aged children).
Gym Training Sessions:
10 weekly sessions for youth aged 15 to 21.
Winter Hike:
A 10–15 km hike for autistic children and youth with accompanying adults.
Expected Results:
Improved physical activity skills, including learning to swim and general physical preparedness.
Development of social skills, such as teamwork and group communication.
Reduction of sensory barriers (e.g., fear of water, noise, large spaces).
Increased motivation for physical activity and self-confidence.
Publicity:
Project activities and results will be shared on the Panevėžys „Lietaus vaikai“ website and social media platforms.
Press releases and articles will be prepared for local media.
The project’s progress and activities will be documented through photos and video, which will be published on the organization’s social media and YouTube channel.
Project Budget: € 5,000
