Project Objective

To provide autistic young people aged 18–21 with the opportunity to experience a safe and inclusive international journey across Europe, strengthening their independence, self-confidence, social and life skills through experiential learning.

The Challenge

Autistic young people often face social isolation, sensory and emotional challenges, limited independence, and lack opportunities to participate in international mobility programmes. As a result, they miss out on real-life experiences that are essential for independent living and full participation in society.

Activities
A1 “Via Cultura: From Opera to Fashion” (Italy)
  • 2 autistic young women and 4 accompanying persons

  • 16-day journey

  • Focus on culture, fashion, architecture, art, and the seaside environment

A2 “Hi-Tech Horizons” (Germany)
  • 2 autistic young people and 3 accompanying persons

  • 10-day journey

  • Visits to IT companies, exploration of urban environments and infrastructure, development of independence skills

Before the journeys:
8 preparatory meetings (planning, practical training, emotional preparation).

During the journeys:
Travel diaries, daily reflections, practice of travel and financial literacy.

After the journeys:
Reflection sessions, presentations of experiences to the community, Youthpass certificates.

Results
For Young Participants
  • Increased independence and self-confidence

  • Improved social, planning and emotional self-regulation skills

  • First experience of international mobility

For the Organisation
  • Strengthened capacity to implement inclusive international projects

  • Development of a safe travel model for autistic youth

  • Plans for continued “Travel EU” type initiatives

Sustainability

The project will serve as a foundation for further inclusive international activities. Experiences will be shared through social media, community meetings, and with other branches of “Lietaus vaikai” across Lithuania.
