Project Title:
„Theatrical Play“ – Supporting the Development of the Theatre Group „Pirmyn“ for Autistic Children
Implementation Period:
September 2024 – December 2024
Funding Source:
Panevėžys City Municipality, contributions from sponsors and partners.
Project Goal:
To develop the social and emotional competencies of autistic children and youth through theatrical play activities. The project aims to provide equal opportunities for autistic participants to engage in non-formal education, promote collaboration between organizers and participants, and reduce the stigma around autism in society.
Problem Statement:
Autistic children and youth rarely participate in non-formal education due to sensory sensitivities, lack of adapted environments, and the lengthy process of inclusion. Existing conditions often do not meet their specific needs, highlighting the necessity to create a safe and consistent environment where they can develop social and emotional skills through theatrical play.
Activities:
Theatrical Sessions: The „Pirmyn“ theatre group of autistic children will participate in weekly theatre workshops aimed at improving communication, self-regulation, social, and creative skills.
Collaboration with Arts Professionals: Educational workshops will be held with „Stalo“ Theatre and Kaunas „Dansema“ Theatre, both of which specialize in inclusive programs for children with special needs.
Performance Creation and Premiere: The theatre group will create and present a performance at a cultural venue in Panevėžys.
Expected Results:
Autistic children and youth will have a safe environment to develop their social and emotional skills through creative activity.
Participants will experience improved well-being, self-expression, self-confidence, and interpersonal skills.
Cooperation with professional artists will contribute to reducing autism stigma and promoting inclusion.
The wider public will be informed about the activities and significance of the „Pirmyn“ theatre, fostering greater social awareness and understanding.
We invite you to watch a short film about the „PIRMYN“ theatre performances and the participants’ impressions after the premiere – available on YouTube.
